Admission requirements

Am I eligible for one of the Master’s programmes?

The Curriculum Committee decides whether your educational background is eligible for admission or not. They cannot make any decisions without a complete application package. If you want to know if you are eligible, you will have to follow the application procedure.

What are the diploma requirements?

There are specific diploma requirements for each programme. For example, all applicants need a solid knowledge of quantitative courses. You can consult the diploma requirements per programme on the faculty’s website.

What are the language requirements?

You need a proof of proficiency in English level B2.

Is GMAT or GRE required?

It is not obligated to add a GMAT or GRE score to your application package. Applicants do have significantly more chance of being admitted, however, if they add one of these tests to their application file.

Do I have to submit a document as a proof that I meet the initial requested competences?

No. It is your own responsibility to check the initial requested competences in the course specifications and to make sure you meet these requirements at the start of the academic year. You can find the course specifications in the Study Guide

Application procedure

What is the application deadline?

Applicants who need a visa have to complete the application procedure before 1 April 2023. Applicants who do not need a visa have to complete the application procedure before 1 June 2023. A complete application procedure means that you finished the online application and sent your application package (hard copy).

Can I apply before graduating at my home university?

Yes. You need to start the application procedure and submit your application package before the deadline. You do not have to wait until you have graduated. In this case, you need to hand in 1) an official declaration from your school/university confirming the expected graduation date and the exact name of the diploma that will be awarded and 2) your most recent transcript.

Can I apply for more than one programme at a time?

Yes, you can apply for two programmes at a time.

How do I know if the International Admission Desk received and processed my application package?

After online registration, you have an account which you can use to log in on Oasis. On this website, you will be able to follow the status of your application.

Programme

Can I combine courses of the Preparatory programme with courses of the Master programme?

This depends on the number of courses in your programme. Usually, students take up 60 credits per academic year, or 30 credits per semester. If your programme consists of less credits, you can ask for permission to combine the Preparatory programme with courses of the Master programme. Can I ask for exemptions?

Yes. If you think you have already earned most of the final competences of one (or more) courses, you can apply for an exemption.

The academic year starts on September 26th, but I will arrive later, can I enrol later?

Yes. However, if you arrive after September 30th, you will have to request the Curriculum Committee for permission to enrol late.

Can I do an internship?

Yes, all master’s programmes offer the possibility to do an internship.

Can I tailor my programme?

Yes, depending on the master’s programme that you are interested in, you can choose one or more elective courses which allow you to tailor your programme.

Do I have to write a master’s dissertation?

All master students have to write a master’s dissertation.

Tuition fee and funding

What is the tuition fee?

The tuition fee for EEA citizens is €979,60. The tuition fee for non-EEA students is €5881,60.

Does Ghent University offer any scholarship?

You cannot apply for a scholarship at Ghent University. The University does provide a Top-Up Grant and a Master Mind scholarship but you cannot apply yourself. The programme coordinators will decide which top-students will be selected.

Does Ghent University offer any other financial aid?

If you do not have a scholarship, here in Belgium or in your home country, and you have to pay the higher tuition fee as a non-EEA citizen, you can pay this tuition fee in instalments. However, all students have to be able to fund their studies and their stay in Belgium by themselves.
