China Platform Lecture Café Series 2022 by speaker Dr. Tobias Gehrke, Research Fellow – Europe in the World, Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations

Introduction to lecture 2: Its war! The United States and China are now in a technology war, a war over who controls the keys to critical technologies set to fundamentally transform our societies and the way states exert power. Technology restrictions and decoupling measures are proliferating. How did we get here?

This lecture will look at China’s technology gambit from Mao to Xi, its success and failures, and what challenges (and opportunities) the great power technology conflict may spell for Europe and the global economy.
